Asthma Treatment In Tuscaloosa, AL
The Allergy & Asthma Center of Tuscaloosa is the only allergy center in West Alabama with physicians certified by the American Board of Allergy and Immunology. We provide evaluation and treatment for the following conditions:
Asthma is a condition caused by narrowed and inflamed airways in the lungs. Symptoms of asthma include coughing, wheezing, tightness of the chest, difficulty breathing, and shortness of breath. About 80% of children and a large number of adults have allergies that significantly affect their asthma. Identifying these allergies greatly reduces symptoms and need for medications. Insufficient treatment often results in scarring of the lungs with permanent loss of lung function, often without the patient being aware of the gradual changes which are occurring.. However, with expert medical treatment, the majority of asthmatic patients lead normal lives. Dr. Dishuck and Dr. Helm can put together a personalized treatment plan and teach you how to control your asthma. We want to give you back a normal life.
Evaluation includes measurement of lung function through spirometry and the Asthma Control Test. It may also include an actual exercise challenge using a treamill when the problem is limited only to exercise.
The doctors utilize the most modern medicines and techniques, including inhaled mediciness and the biological agents seen on television, when appropriate
Finally, the diagnosis is not always clear and this office is one of the few places in Alabama where methacholine challenges (recognized as the Gold Standard for diagnosing asthma) are performed.
