Sinusitis

Sinusitis is an infection of air cavities that surround your nose and lie behind your cheeks and forehead. The membranes or linings of these sinuses become infected, swell and block the drainage openings causing accumulation of infected fluid. There are a number of causes of sinusitis including allergies, nasal polyps, deviated septum and enlarged adenoids. The most common symptom of sinusitis is an apparent prolonged cold. Normally a cold should resolve in 7-10 days but if it seems to persist, one should think of sinusitis. If sinus infections are not appropriately treated, they persist or return to become a chronic and serious health problem. Our goal is to prevent chronic problems by identifying and treating the cause, rather than just the symptoms.
